Well, adding onto Denise's comment about composition. I guess the most effective way to "Light" or "brighten" or but emphasis of light up onto her face is to use a reflector.

You don't need anything fancy. Just some shiny aluminum foil backed onto a cardboard with some double sided tape?

Go cheap. Figurine photography is a very ghetto style and niche type of photography. You don't need to buy those crazy huge-assed reflectors which are used for Model shoots. In some ways or another i've seen many people take good shots with just a IKEA LAMPs and white cloth.

Getting this right means getting your portraiture right as well.
